The AC only blows cold when turned to the very coldest setting. If taken off that setting it begins to blow hot. Is it the controller behind the **** or...?? All other functions work as they should.

Im assuming that the "****" is a rheostat. If thats the case then maybe the resistance wiper arm in the switch is bad and the only way the AC works is when the switch "shorts" at full turn. Ill pop the panel and ohm it, that will tell me.
Only works when cranked to 65...and does not matter when in auto(I think all auto does is very fan speed)

This is a problem I have read in several different threads. Have you done any work on the car? Maybe behind the center console? There is an ambient temperature sensor inside on the driver's side that might have some knicked wires or the actual unified meter and A/C amp. That is the white box that is under the radio. This box controls the temperature in the car and every aspect of the of the air conditioning system. I have a similar problem, except my car doesn't have cold A/C at any setting. There is a way to troubleshoot the system without taking it apart and here are the steps.
1. Set the fan control dial to the OFF position.
2. Turn on the car and within ten seconds hold down the A/C switch for five seconds.
3. All four of the lights should turn on, if they don't then you have a problem with either the A/C controller or the unififed meter and A/C amp. (auto amp).
you can PM me to continue with the diagnostic test. I had this test from a 2003 350z maintenance manual. If you want me to send you the manual for the AC email me at AG_enterprises@live.com
