How boned am I ?
i have an 03 and ran into a little bit of a problem. My hatch will not open. The fuse is fine, its getting power from the switch, the fob is fine i just have a bad latch motor, i can tell this because of the noise its making when i hit fob, the button above the place does nothing either. I know its no hard task to change a latch out, but my problems i cant even get the thing open because i have a zenclosure stealth style sub box underneath my rear strut support. So no access what so ever without taking a jackhammer to the sub box and pounding it to bits. Anyone know how to access the hatch area without being able to get to the hatch area?

sorry OP. I'm not sure what to do in such a case. Maybe you can start by removing the bumper to see if you can get to the latch from the outside?

I haven't a clue why you would comment in such a rude manner. I was simply trying to help with the problem. Here is a copy of the page from the manual showing the location of the emergency release. If you are trying to tell me the original poster can't get to the release because of the position of the speaker, you could tell me in a much friendlier manner. I have no idea how the speaker is positioned and it is possible the emergency release could be used if the original poster knew were to locate it. I was simply trying to help a fellow Z owner and didn't expect to be attacked.

Korner, per the op's post, he is saying he cant get to that location due to his sub box....
OP, with out seeing a pic of how your box is installed, but i get the general idea, it looks to me as the best route is to get into the car from the front and push/move/destroy your sub box to access the manual latch release and go from there....
you cant remove the bumper, cuase there are points that need to be removed with the hatch open to get the bumper off..
g/L.......let us know what you do.

is the box bolted down? if so, start hack'n away.....if you can lift it up, then do that and try and get under it to reach the pull chord.....you will probably have to remove your harness bar to do so....

the top part is just a cover for the box, its long and one piece. The box is almost the same width and one piece as well, both are too big to remove from the front. Had to put them in through the hatch area, and for a coat hanger...tried it and a flexible rigid jimmy and i cant even find the release and even if i could i would have not leverage to pull it. I did find that when its cold it the latch will work just a little bit, so im thinking i may be able to pull hard and get it semi released and if doesnt come up all the way the sawzall the latch off
any suggestions im open ears, im fairly handy and pretty creative and right now willing to try anything, thanks for all the help so far none the less guys i appreciate it.
Im even more screwed than the guy on here that locked his keys in his car while it was running it seems.

i really have no idea if this will work lol but you dont have alot of options. when i was dynamatting the back of my car i had stripped all the plastic out to get it in. if you pull the plastic peice with the Z on it off i think you can see it.. Im not 100 percent sure but if nothing else you can cut a little peice of the metal out and get to it.. better than hacking up your sub box...

That boned.
I wish I could help, but I think you've got all your options laid out and have done the proper research, but yeah none of them are pretty.
Good luck man!

well i went to the dealer ship and they said they could get it the hatch open....but it was gonna be roughly 150 in labor and they would have to dremmel the plastics around the strut bar. I says to myself; self, i could just that myself. So i tried tinkering with it some more:however, i was able to break my forefinger reaching around and grabbing the release and pulling on it no luck though, its just not intended to be pulled from over the top. Im just gonna cut the amp rack in half and pull it out and hack the box and just build a new one.

150 for the dealership to open it
If it were me I would have the dealership open it
