need help asap compression rod install

need help asap compression rod install
so got the rod out. but seems like there is a small black cone thing on the old rod. where the ball joint is.
but my new rod dosnt seem to have one?
i cant get the part off the old rod for the life of me.
what do i need to do? anyone changed one up before?
