clearly you are assuming it is engine or drivetrain. how did you arrive at that conclusion?

A good place to start is looking at applicable service bulletins. Very informative.

The clicking you are hearing is coming from the axels in the rear. Many people have this problem with the Z's. There is a TSB on it from Nissan, and there are a couply DIY threads on here about it as well. Some people, including myself, just yanked the cotter pin out and took a impact gun on the axel nut and tightened it up and wala, no more noise. If you bring it to Nissan they'll go through the whole thing for you, which honestly is pointless in my opinion.

If you can live with the clicking, it's not going to hurt anything.

+1... Rear axle is making the clicking noise. It doesn't effect driveability, performance, nor will the car breakdown as a result...
