Oil Change 5-30w or 10-30w?
My 04 has a little over 100k miles on it. Im going to be putting Royal purple in it, just wondering due to the milage should i maybe use the 10-30w?
The owner's manual gives various alternatives, but recommends 5W30, for fuel economy. IF it gets really nasty, temperature-wise, in Baltimore, 10W30 would probably be a good bet. Follow davidv's "hint", and do a full search on the subject; there are plenty of threads on it. Good hunting!
have you read the oil analysis thread? some great info there. the majority of engine wear occurs at start up, and 10w takes longer to warm up and thin out then 5w. some great alternatives to royal purple too .. it's not as good as it costs. as a matter of fact it scores pretty average and that's not really acceptable to me for how much it costs per quart.
these are other VQ engines samples, yours will differ, there are a myriad of factors that can change the sample, and I suggest sending in your own sample if you are curious how your oil choice is stacking up.

^why? Get an oil analysis....I have been rocking 7-8k with no problem and normal engine wear.
+a million on reading the VQ oil analysis thread. Tons of info (like how RP isn't really that great of an oil for the VQ).

Your car survived over 100k on 5W-30, I'm sure if you take good care of it it'll do another 100k on 5W-30
