Default How do I burp my cooling system?

My car started overheating the other day, so I tried burping the system, but the car just ended up spewing a bunch of coolant out of the radiator car. I don't think I'm doing it right, so can someone point me in the right direction?

Throw her over your shoulder and pat her on the back.

I use a no spill funnel and just fill and run the engine opening the purge screw to let air out. With the heater on.

The purge valve is located on the heater hose just before it goes into the firewall on the passenger side. Look for the slotted black plastic cap. System has to be hot and car should be running so watch out for steam/hot water coming out. May have to do it a couple times - our cars are famous for air bubbles.

Perfect. Got it sorted. I just didn't know about the purge valve in the upper hose. Made everything infinitely better.
