Default Will not start!

Well, two nights ago, I went to crank my car... cranked for about 10 seconds, but wouldnt start. I sat there and thought... hmm wierd. Tried again and it started right up. Worked fine that night and the next day. Just now I went to try to start it and I got the same thing. It would crank but not start. (like it isnt getting gas or spark) I have had no check engine lights or anything. It HAS been raining both times this has occured, do not know if that has anything to do with it. I am at an apartment complex in college so It is hard for me to go out there in the rain and troubleshoot. Any ideas? I NEED to be driving, this sucks. My mods are pop charger, plenum spacer, HFC, and exhaust. plz help ALSO, i am at 50,000 miles or so

YES, original battery. and update: it started about an hour ago, i drove to TJ MAXX and scholitshkies to get a tastey sammich and some cheap cloths. Started BOTH time, no problem, was puring the rain the whole time. so the problem IS intermittent, HMMMM damn you nissan! such a pain, im supoosed to take a road trip with my girl next weekend, last thing i want is for us to get stranded in some redneck town. I read it MAYYYY be the nissan security system in the key? any ideas? should i get a new battery? it is cranking fine when it wont start, just wont FIRE the *** up

Definitely not the battery as he said the car cranks but will not start. Next time check to see if the ignition coils fire it will require pulling one off and placing next to an engine ground then have someone crank while you look for spark (do not touch you will get shocked) if no spark is present it is most likely you cam position sensor.

Thanks I will give that a try, I drove home from college and it ran fine, has started up since then with no issues. Would codes be in some sort of 'engine history' in the computer if it was the cam sensor (i.e., it would have the code for the sensor stored for when it wouldnt start those two times?)

The ecu does store some codes, if it was enough for it to notice. For a code like that the engine light would come on even if it was just a stored "history code".

Check the battery. Maybe a bad batt cell.

You're in college... Hmm... Do you happen to drive with low fuel often? In fact, do you drive with the low-fuel light on for long periods of time?

Could be the CAN comm. failure with the key... I've had this, and has many others quite a lot. One thing to take note if you didn't read the last post on the thread omega showed you, is to notice the security alarm LED status on the dashboard on the driver side. If this stays solid red when you put the key in you may have problems here.

In the past I had taken the key out, sent the unlock, then lock, then unlock signal via the key FOB and that usually did it. Now from the suggestion of someone here (can't find the damn thread) I put the key and move it to the on position for a few seconds before trying to start the engine. Haven't had any problems since with this method.

You know what, now that I think about it, this definitely answers some questions for me about this problem. As I stated in another thread, I'm also having the intermittent start-up issue. It just cranks and cranks, but won't start. This is exactly what happens when you try to start the car with any other duplicate key that doesn't have the chip in it. I mean, the spark plugs and fuel pump might be the culprits, but this key issue makes it interesting.

Always happens to me too. All I do is just press lock/unlock a couple times real quick (w/ my key out of the ignition) then it starts right up next time I put my key in. It's weird like that...I think has something to do with the car not "unlocking" all the way the killstart is still active.
