soo heres the issue hopefully someone can help me out. when i go to turn on the car it will not start but at the flip of the switch the lights do work. it takes about 10 or more trys of putting my foot all the way on the clutch and turning the key unit it turns on. i dont seem to have a problem in the morning because it starts right up.. i called nissan but they said 210$ for the diagnosis, times are tuff right now and thats just out of the question. any help will be greatly appreciated! thank you

 

low battery? leak? failing starter? maybe a few more specifics IE: temperature, frequency? $210 is a bit steep for just a diagnostic, there are a few vendors on here that could poss give you better pricing , heard good things about specialty z. BTW sometimes the battery can still turn on the lights but not have enough power to crank the car. I think kragen check your battery for free and like $20 to charge it. GL bro.

 

make sure your battery cables are getting good connection even if they look to be in good shape: take them off.. clean... put them back on and tighten them up maybe this will work

Similar problems at one point. It was my battery.

 

Have Nissan or Autozone test/replace your battery.

 

There's a clutch sensor behind the clutch pedal that needs to be engaged in order for the engine to turn over. Sounds like it's gone bad.

If you don't have any voltage issue, this is the likely culprit. The part isn't expensive and you should be able to swap it out yourself. Good luck.

 

hmm okk soo the battery is brand new about 2 months old. but i just took a second look at it and the negative is loose but the bolt cannot be tightend? hmm

 

Is your car cranking at all? If not it could be a bad clutch pedal/neutral safety switch (behind the clutch pedal) or the battery not providing enough power for the starter to crank

 

i dont hear the starter kicking in at all... i hear it could possibly be the fuel pump or something?

 

so i tightened and cleaned the battery and its not that? still takes about 12-15 trys until it turns on? any mechanics on board?

is there a specific way to check the button to c if it works?

 

push it down hard with your fingers or stomp the **** out of the clutch pedal.

yes, just did this earlier, if it doesnt turn on, then that switch is more than likely your problem.

 

so you changed the switch and your car turned on just fine?

 

no i just adjusted mine a lil more toward the pedal, then drove around for a while and re-started it at least 5 times with no problems, it may just be temporary but its working for now. switch is only $15 if it does go bad. you can press the switch with the car running and it wont do anything, i was worried about hitting while driving but nothing happened.

 

hmm how interesting.. i pressed it down once and turned on the car with the first try. and now its been turning on with out a problem? wow very interesting.
