Default Winter Oil Change

When I put my car away for the winter I am going to have about 3K since my last oil change (mobil 1). Should I change my oil before the winter or leave it and change it in the spring?

Thanks,

KJ

Good question, I was wondering the same.
Will old oil cause deposits on the bottom of the pan that would stay permanently due to long storage? or will the deposits get loose again when you drive it in the spring and drain out with the oil change?

You will hear different responses from different people and it will most likely be fine if you leave it OR change it... personally, I always put fresh oil in before storing it. It definitely can't hurt anything to be stored with fresh oil.

I agree with jeffa55. I always store with fresh oil. Granted 3000 miles isn't much, but an oil change doesn't cost that much and it will reset your change timeline for next year.

I'd change it since oil gets contaminated with use. Do you want the contaminants sitting in your engine for 4+ months?
