1st gear jumpy
I have had this problem only when my TCS mis-behaves. My car sometimes shows 'SLIP' when there is none (e.g., dry pavement and not accelerating hard) and TCS goes a bit nuts. Few seconds, though, and its back to normal.
Overall, you can skidaddle in first gear in this car practically anytime under 20mph, just press the gas pedal. If your TCS is on (default) it will attempt to control throttle on slipping, which may be jerky.
I don't have VDC (Enthusiast), so I cannot say anything for it.
