"Service Engine Soon" Light?!?
Hey Folks,
I noticed my oil pressure was low the other day and the "Service Engine Soon" Light popped on. I got an oil change immediately yet the light is still on. My question is, what can cause this? Thanks for helping!

A lot of things can cause the SES (Service Engine Soon) light to come on. When it does, the computer stores a code. Get the code pulled via OBD II scanner and go from there.

I agree with thefarmer- get this checked as the ECM may be continuing to track a fault. Does your oil pressure continue to be low after the oil change? How long has it been since your oil was changed?
lol i remember when mine came on 500 miles after i put on my o2 simulators for my test pipes i got the code read at autozone he said it says its running rich in catalyst one. i said that impossible he was like why i just responded with catalyst one is sitting in a cabinet in my garage.
take it to autozone they will scan for free

Maybe he thought the oil pressure was low because there wasn't much oil in the engine, and he didn't want to add fresh oil to the dirty oil that needed to be changed anyway.
I doubt the computer would pick up low oil pressure, unless the oil pressure warning light came on.

I copied this off another forum. You don't have to go anywhere to find your code.
If you pull your code post it up here and we can let you know what the problem might be.

Not sure if this is common knowledge or not (I did a search and couldn't find it), but our z's have a built in code reader. No need to go to autozone, or buy a reader anymore.
Here is how it works:
By following the ECU reset procedure outlined in this site, when the SEL light starts blinking, the blinks actually mean something.
The first number of the code are long blinks, and the subsequent short blinks are the other numbers. a blink of 10 is zero. The code will keep repeating itself as long as you let it.
So 10 long blinks followed by 4 short blinks, followed by 4 short blinks, followed by 2 short blinks = code (P)0442 EVAP control system.
If you turn off the ignition while this is going on, the code is still stored, and upon start up the SEL light will appear in its normal soild state, but if you follow the reset procedure after you are done counting the blinks (Hold the accelerator pedal down for more then 10 seconds, then release pedal and turn key to off), then upon starting the car, the SEL light will be off and the code reset.

you can hate me for it, but I pay other people to deal with even "basic mechanics." drop it off at the dealer, they give me a Z to drive for the day, I pick it up at COB. And if anything goes wrong, its on them.
How often do you do your oil change? Maybe whoever did your oil change didn't reset it? I think manufacture suggested every 5k, if you happen to do it every 3k the light will come on during your cycle
I know with 6 speed Z's consume oil if you do a lot of downshifting or leave at high rpm's its possible the code is for your cam actuators but i would go get the code read it could be something not even related like a cat code.
if im not mistaken my Z was doing the same thing then I changed the oil with Royal Purple and K&N oil filter and the pressure shot up as it was originally.
The oil in fact does "care" if the oil is new or old otherwise we would not need to change oil in the first place.
