Default 350z OEM Flywheel bad design?

I took my car to a local mechanic for some clutch maintenance and he says my flywheel is about to go. My car is a 2003 base model Z with 104K miles. He said the OEM flywheel that comes on earlier Z/G's are poorly designed and go bad frequently, he also said they 'redesigned' it for the newer ones and that they're much better now.

I've never heard of anything like this, I have searched Google and these forums and have not come up with anything. So is he right? Does the OEM flywheel suck?

NO your mechanic is full of shiet. if your flywheel IS going out, just get it resurface.

Sounds like he tryna hustle you..like any other "mechanic"

I have one of the rare mechanics that tells me "nah you don't need this...probably not that also..."

Yeah like I said, never heard of any of our flywheels being flawed, just thought I'd double check with everyone here.

you can't resurface the Z's flywheel, due to it's design

to the OP - I've never once heard of OEM flywheel issues. Perhaps he meant OEM thow out bearing issues, as those are quite common (they tend to be noisy, though I've never seen one fail first hand)

If the flywheel lasted 104,000 miles, the design can't be "that bad". Just get it fixed and move on.

What is this clutch maintenance you speak of? If you had the clutch replaced, you need to replace the flywheel as well. Like Z1P said, the OEM flywheel can't be resurfaced.

Well I had it taken there to get the clutch line bled as there was no pressure in the pedal, no actual clutch issues, though, no slippage or anything like that.
