I have an 06. It did it about 10 times total. Have not heard it in a while now. It's not the tranny or clutch. Its def. the pedal assembly, prob the spring as mentioned earlier

it's the plastic pedal. Nothing you can do about it. If you press hard enough on the foot rest on the far left you can make the same popping sound. You just get used to it.

I have the same problem with the "pop" noise, I bring it to the dealer and they replaced the clutch pedal assembly for me. They said it's the pin making the noise when the pedal is engaging. After that, no more noise!

Its the pedal assembly. Watch for it to get worse possibly turning into a sticky pedal.

Hey I just bought my 06z and mine pops for the majority of the time, Only when I'm depressing it tho. I've heard it's completely normal but if it was normal you would think it would happen consistently which it doesn't. I've also heard its a throwout bearing, which makes more sense.

I think what you are experiencing is the little rubber piece that pushes into the Cruise Control switch on the clutch assembly pedal. Mine does this all the time and eventually the rubber piece just fell out and the clutch is actually smoother now. I don't care about Cruise Control as I don't use it at all.

I know this an old thread..but the problem is pretty prevalent and I thought I'd revive it.
I had a similar problem...makes more of a *clicking* under the pedal. I got spray white lithium grease (Gunk). You have to get WAY up above the spring where the rod is.

See this post of mine here on the issue:

I need to get this fix done. I get that popping sound only when in gear and releasing the pedal. If I push on pedal and release in Neutral, it's fine.

I've been having this ongoing popping sound for like 1-2 years of ownership of my Z. I sprayed that lithium grease and it fixed it (I think). Gonna go for a drive tomorrow morning and find out :O but as of just using my hand and foot pushing the pedal, it stopped making the popping noise.

my pedal would come up almost all the way, then POP. it would do it sometimes and sometimes totally normal.

i flushed the clutch fluid with suction, then pumped it and did a manual bleed, flushed all the dirt out with suction again, then bled it manually again. now the clutch pedal is super smooth, comes back really strong, fast, and smooth. no sticking and no popping.

The lithium grease worked for me as well was having the noise as I released the clutch pedal...got some of the same grease from autozone, drove to a taco place to eat, stopped and ate, came back and drove back to work with no noise.

Where exactly do you apply this lithium grease? (Nevermind - Saw Ronn1's Link above, includes a picture and everything. lol)

I've had this issue now for a few months, at first just dealt with it. Now i'm going crazy listening to it. Doesn't do it everytime, but it does it enough to be a problem for me.

It is a popping/clicking sound when releasing the pedal. Sounds like the clutch pedal assembly for sure. No sticking clutch though, just the noise when releasing.

To make matters worse, my clutch is shuddering now when launching from first (casually). Feel the damn car shake a bit.
