Default electrical system overcharging

I thought i needed a new battery since the battery light began flickering and the interior lights were pulsating, also thought i noticed a bit choppier idle than normal
battery turned out to be garbage...replaced the battery and voltmeter was up at almost 16 after starting my car the next morning, i rolled up my windows and when they got to the top the car surged, voltmeter dropped and i heard a pop and the car died... no power what so ever.
i found what looks like a blown fuse on the fusible link attached to the positive battery terminal that seams to be responsible for all power loss.
going to replace that and get it to the dealership.
any ideas on what would cause excessive charging?
I think my alternator checked out ok?

Wow... you know I noticed before changing my drive belts my voltage read about 15.3V or so... kinda scary.

Unrelated here... but I did have some weird incident several months ago when putting air in my tires while the car was running. I got back in my car to drive off and the car just shut off and I lost all electrical. I ended up having to disconnect the negative terminal on my battery to get my car back. Was really weird...

Anyway i'd love to help you but I don't know. I'm just in for an answer really, i'm curious about this. Good luck I hope you figure it out.

getting it towed to the dealer saturday... check my other post... the overcharging caused a short that burnt through my fusible link and fried the wiring harness.

Same thing happened to me last week. Put a new battery in, Because it cooked my old one. Next morning it didnt want to start. Come to find out my alternator was puttin out almost 18v!! I turned on my system and it was fine. Anyway I replaced my alterntor and all is fine now. Apparently the internal regulator was fried but for one reason or another it was reading fine while I had my radio on. Hope this helpes!!
