Default Nissan Dealership 45 Pt Check/Diagnose

Due to a System Service Soon light.
I'm taking my car to the dealership.

They are wanting to charge me around $100 just to diagnose the car?

-45 point check up.

How much are you guys paying for these?
Give me a price to ball park.

Car is still under warranty - bumper to bumper

If it is still under the factory warranty then the dealer shouldnt be attempting to charge you anything - unless the issue is found to be caused by something that routine maintenance would cover.
If the SES is caused by a clogged air filter for example, that is not covered under warranty, and the dealer could charge for diagnosis as well as parts and labor.

Thats what I'm trying to figure out.

So, What I'm trying to verify is that:

-If the car is under warranty. The check up should be free?
-I should/could ONLY be charged, IF later they found something that is exempted from the Warranty.

Correct?

I just gave NissanUSA a direct call regarding this.

Apparently, They can charge me a diagnose/check fee.

Are you guys really not being charged?

Thanks for input thus far.

I have never had to pay a penny for work under warranty but I also never went in there with a CEL.

BTW you can go to an auto zone or another auto parts store that does it and they will scan the code and tell you what it is for free. Also, a scanner is less than $100 and you would have it forever...

When our Zs were under the full b2b warranty (3/36), I was never charged for a problem I described for the diagnosis. This would be especially true, in my opinion, if there is a service light on in the vehicle. Tell them to shove it.

Same here. Never charged a dime on any of my car brands when it was still under the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

I would try a different stealership. They are trying to get you committed to having them do the work.

What should happen is a free diagnostic, then if it's out of warranty they charge accordingly.

"Car is still under warranty - bumper to bumper"

You're not saying how old the car is or whether it's covered by the original factory warranty or an extended warranty. That probably makes a big difference.

I was never charged a cent under 3yrs/36Kmiles for "looking" at something, even when they "found nothing wrong".

I have aftermarket exhaust, intake, and my car just threw a SES 2 weeks ago. I had 1k miles to go, and like 2 weeks left on my warranty. They checked it out and said it was the exhaust and since it was aftermarket it wasn't covered under warranty. They didn't charge me for the diagnosis and they reset it for me.

Never charged for repairs when the car was under warrantee.

Took my wife's 2004 Honda to the dealer when a light came on indicating a problem with the airbag/safety belt system. I had to sign a paper saying I would pay $107 before they would scan the system. Didn't have to pay the fee when the problem was found to be in the safety belt assembly, which is under warrantee for the life of the car. If it had been an airbag problem I would have been stuck with the scan fee.

$100 sounds about right to diagnose a problem. Think about it. The shop does NOT want to spend a hour on the car, then you drive away and have it fixed elsewhere. THey are out one hour labor.

For diagnostics and fix you may not see the $100. Just parts and labor.

Thats what I'm trying to figure out.

Apparently, after having to talk with them today. (Had to pay the $90)
They were gonna diganose my car.

If they find something that is covered under my BtoB 36km/3y warranty.
Than its covered.

However, if nothing is found.
Than I have to pay the diagnose fee.

Well, I went in there today and apparently they took almost 4 hours looking at the car. Than had the ***** to ask to hold it over night.

The guy mentioned that the system didn't allow him to check further in the computer since the car engine was hot? He ********tin?

In the end. He practically charged me $90 to take the car home with nothing done.

Did they give you a printout or write on the invoice what the SES code was?

Don't go to a Nissan Dealership? I always go to Z specialized shops. Friendlier and familiar with aftermarket stuff...

The thing is, Soar. Does those shop cover the car for FREE with the Warranty?
Im not familiar with the shops around your area, but here in my town. Only authorized Dealerships can assist you with a Facotry based Warranty car.

I'm not the greatest in handling things like these since I don't have the knowledge to react when neccessary. I hope you guys can further assist me regarding this for my future benefits.

Little Rant:
The guy kept insisting that I was impatient and needed to learn that these cars take time check due to high technology.
I almost cringed when he told me that.
Technology was created to make our lives easier.

-The technician that was working on my car looked at the car for no more than 15 mins. Than left to change oil for another.
-He came back in 1 hour 30 mins to look at the car for another sweet 10 mins and sent it to another technician.
-That technician didn't even look at the car for 30 mins.

The thing that really bugs me is that they told me that they wanted to leave it over night. I already had a feeling these guys wanted to give me a rough time.
He stated that the engine temperture is causing the computer to stop all type of access, "so that they may proceed further"?

Ideas?
