Default 5th gear grinding

My fifth gear has been grinding lately. It does it about 1 out of every 3 shifts. It happens when the car is warmed up or cold, low revs and high revs, and yes the clutch was all the way.

Any suggestions as to what it could be?

Thanks

its a very common problem. mine does it pretty much when i try shifting hard/quickly into 5th. its your syncro going out. time for a new tranny if you really want to get rid of the problem. you could also try new fluids.

you can replace your syncro but most people end up getting a cd009 transmission, which is suppose to be a better shifting version. you can find a good deal on one for less than a $1000 used. as for draining the tranny fluid, its pretty easy if you are decent a working on cars. i believe there is a DIY in the DIY section, but honestly, changing fluids rarely fix grinding problems.

Probably need a new transmission. A rebuilt one will cost less.

its the only solution. replacing any parts does not fix it. knew a local guy who replaced every single component of his tranny (he was rich so he just dropped it off at a shop over and over) and after about a year every part of the tranny was brand new and he still had it

most likely the synchros. since you're out of warranty if you really want it fixed i'd get the parts from them and have a cheaper transmission shop do it, or nissan will prolly charge you an arm and a leg.

I have the 3rd gear grind over 5k. I just found a deal on a cd009. getting it next week.

I tried talking the dealer into doing it under warranty, 33,000 miles but a 2003. they wouldn't budge.
