Default Rattling noise from gearbox/drivetrain when turning of engine.

Hi all

When I turn of the car with the gear in neutral I hear a rather high rattling noice from the engine/gearbox.

At first I though that the engine was "blown" but then I tried to turn of the engine with the clutch pressed down and voila no noice!

I dont hear anything when the engine is idling in neutral. Its just when I turn it of I hear that horrible noice. And its rather high also.

I belive I got a related problem to this also; When I'm using the cruisecontrol the car sortof "jumps" ahead sometimes. It's like the engine is spinning up but there is some space between when the power gets to the wheels. Kinda hard to explain but the cruisecontrol is rather unpleseant when going downhill since the engine turns the power on and off all the time when in cruisecontrol.

Any ideas and countermessures for this ?

(Im from sweden; so yes there might be some spelling errors since english aint my native language)

As far as the noise, push in your clutch when you shut down the car. You won't hear it. It's a good practice to do anyway.

The cruise control issue is normal for Z's. My wife's Chevy HHR does it too, but it's not nearly as noticeable.

Lots of guys on this site will agree that what you experienced, though, is normal and nothing to be concerned about.

It does rather interfere with one's ability to nap while driving though.

i get the "jump" feeling as well when i use my cruise control. don't worry about it too much

As for the rattling noise coming from the drivetrain, I've never heard of that problem before. I guess for now keep pushing in the clutch since it works.
