03 engine ticking. fuel pressure reg. recall?
Hey I only have internet access on my phone at the time being so I couldn't do a full search of the site so I'm sorry if this was already a thread. I have an 03 z with around 85k miles and I've started to notice a ticking getting louder from my engine. I'm no mechanic but I checked the oil and it was fine so I asked a friend if he knew what it could be and he said 03s had a recall on fuel pressure regulators ticking real loud. Anyone know anything about the validity of his diagnosis or what else the ticking could be? Thanks in advance!
Ticking is generally associated with the valvetrain but our cars don't fall out of adjustment (so unless that's been worked specifically its not the problem). Sometimes people describe the loud timing case components as rattling (specifically chains bouncing on the guides) but I would imagine you would have describe this slightly different. I would say try to get a area or side of the car the noise is coming from and then we can help further.

A Google search for "fuel pressure regulators ticking 350Z" turned up several hits that hinted at the problem. One mentioned the fuel damper making a noise that could be heard in the cabin.
"2004 Nissan 350Z Recalls And Tsbs : RepairPal
A faulty fuel damper can produce a ticking noise, heard inside the cabin with the engine idling."
I tried looking at the link, but couldn't find anything more about it.
