pass side back of motor going into the firewall. Its on the heater hose. #3 phillips screwdriver to remove it, do not tighten it to much , it will strip.

Grats on getting things working again. If the problem ever persists:
1. You do NOT have air in your system
2. Your thermostat is bad - it's probably stuck close which will not allow water to travel, thus causing your motor to overheat and preventing the warm water to travel, giving you the inconsistency in cabin heat.
Best of luck

Wish it was that easy. I need an actual new one. When I went to open bleeder valve when car over heated a bit, antifreeze blew it off, loosing it in the abyss of my engine bay. I have searched thru everything I can to buy a new one, but no luck. I may have to invent something for that. Any ideas?

I just fixed the same exact problem in my 2003 350z. Cause was the radiator cap being faulty. Got a new one put it on and boom like magic. Pretty minor part but it keeps the pressure in the coolant system. Yes there's air in the system so def. Still bleed the air out after replacing with new radiator cap, but the cap does keep pressure in the system so that coolant flows correctly. Before I found the cause of the problem, I was only dealing the symptoms. I replaced the thermostat, radiator( which was blown) and all the hoses. Only problem was that the radiator did not come with a new cap. Changed the cap out and like magic I have pressure, which in this case was the cause of air in the system (not necessarily that it needed to have the air bleed out) or "burped".

I solved the "overheat + no hot air in cabin".
Mine is 350z, 2005, manual, base model. I didn't drive the car for 6 months and I got the above problem.
I did so after unsuccessful diagnosis. I followed many tips but wasn't able to pinpoint the failed component, so I flushed the radiator, replaced thermostat and bled the system to see if I got lucky.
Problem still exists after many attempts bleeding it, from up the front to opening the release cap, squeezing the pipes. Last night I gave it a final trial and was ready to order & replace the radiator as the next step. Then it worked.
This was how it happened: I bled the car for 2 hours but no bubbles coming out, and still no heat in cabin. Car parked and temperature is hot (3/4 of the gauge). If I had driven for 1/2 miles, it would have hit the overheat, top of the gauge immediately. I finally gave up, took out the bleeder container, closed the hood and went to bed. This morning, I started the car and there was heat coming out from cabit. No more overheat.
I still don't know how I got lucky or the problem may come back. I measure the 2 pipes in/out of the radiator: one was hot (120F) and the other cold (60F) and I was confused. I thought they were both supposed to have the same temperature.
So that was my story. If the problem came back, I will update. Thank those who took time to post tips and how-to.
