Question Please help identify this part

Sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum. Since I don't know what this part is, I have no clue what section it would go in.

I have been looking everywhere and I cannot seem to identify this part or what it does.

I noticed it when I had the drivers side inner fender taken off while accessing the back of the headlight housing.

It's bolted in with a bushing of some sort that allows it to swing from side to side and spring back.

Anybody?

Heh, that's the first thing I checked!

Driver's side only...

looks to be a vibration dampener..., they use stuff like this on exhausts & tranny cross members sometimes too, just an isolated weight really... kinda does the same thing as if something was vibrating a bit then you hold it with your hand & it stops vibrating...

I wonder if that is roadster specific. I don't recall seeing anything like that under my coupe.

What is that big black lump made of? From the picture, it looks like styrofoam.

The bracket is called a "Stabilizer Reinforcment Bracket" per the FSM. But I couldn't find the pivot. The bracket looks to stabilize the welded section of the front member.

It is definitely solid metal. Looks cast. It's very heavy from the feel of it.

I was looking through the FSM too and originally thought I found it under Stabilizer Reinforcement Bracket but then saw that same name refer to the sway bar bracket...

Stabilizer reinforcement bracket sounds like the piece that holds the front sway bar which is seen to the right of the unknown object in his pic. I searched the FSM for that term and don't get a hit. There's nothing on the courtesy parts site with that description either.

Check in the Body Repair section of the BODY, LOCK & SECURITY SYSTEM on page 264. Looks like the mount to the pivot.

if it's just a heavy weight on a rubber centered mount, like a motor mount type mount but with nothing actually connected to it then it's def a vibration dampener

I looked through the body section and I don't see anything that looks like the bracket or the weight thing in the picture.

Could very well be a vibration dampener but we should be able to identify it in a diagram somewhere and find out what exactly it is dampening and why (apparently) only in a roadster.

If all else fails I think I will swing by the Nissan dealer with a picture. But that doesn't mean that they will know either.

My suggestion is to search out some of these track savvy vendors, like Forged or Performance Nissan and ask. I would imagine they would remove dead weight if it is really for harmonics.

Can you post the page from your FSM that shows that part?

I am not sure which diagram Zazz93 is talking about. The body section in my FSM only goes up to 260. Maybe I have a older version. But the manual says on page 2 that it is for the 2004 which is what I have.

I put up my BL section here

On page 247 of the PDF I posted, it shows the "Stabilizer Reinforcement Bracket" which I believe is what he is referring to but I don't think that is the same part as the picture I posted.

Try page 258 in the 2004 manual. It's a bracket, it doesn't look like the part in your picture.

I originally thought this was the part it pivoted on, but I'm not so sure any longer. (See first item circled on the lower left)

The page 258 is title "Rear side member"

This bracket is in the front.
