Default E-Brake light on while driving. Please help.

hello,

I have a problem with my e-brake warning light being on while driving. This is the first time this has happened to me. I'm wondering if its because of te cold weather. Can anyone provide me with suggestions on what the problem may be?

I'm going to check the fluid levels in 20 mins when I go on break. Thanks in advance for the help and suggestions.

edit: ya i messed up on the title lol. please ignore. or if a mod can fix that'd be great lol.

Probably time for new brake pads. Mine came on when the pads were worn down.

Low brake fluid is the cause 99% of time. As your pads wear down, the fluid level drops in the reservoir. Also, cold weather causes it to shrink a little, lowering the level.

the fluid levels seems to be fine. and the pad have plenty of meat left. would it be possible that the cold weather could cause the ebreak to not fully disengage?

Not really. The e-brake part of that warning is a switch under the handle. Unless your handle is not all the way down, or the switch is bad or loose, then the problem lies elsewhere.

Does the Brake light come on when you start the car or only after driving a while?

Is it on steady or blinking?

Yes. The emergency brake can freeze ON. But you would notice it. It would feel like the car was towing a ton of bricks.

the handle was completely down. and the light was steady on. but after i exited the freeway the light turned off. i just wanted to voice my concern to be safe rather sorry.

i'll double check the symptoms on the drive home today from work. hopefully it was because of the freezing cold rathat than a malfunction of some sort.

thanks for all the input guys. i'll chime in after work. hopefully nothing too serious.

no issues on the ride home. looks like i'll pull off the wheel this weekend and take a closer look. but if anyone had this issue feel free to throw some suggestions my way. i'm thinking of flushing the break system and re adjusting the e-break. right now it has no stopping power until the last few clicks.

Hows the brake fluid condition? usually e-brake light is a symptom of low brake fluid levels or possibly bad fluid, maybe do a flush if the fluids gone bad
