Default How to fix cloudy/scratched gauge cluster plastic

Hi guys, im new to the forum, just bought my 350z a couple months ago and am in the process of detailing it. For some reason all of the clear plastic in front of my gauges are extremely cloudy and scratched. I am assuming the previous owner tried to buff them, but used too strong of a plastic cleaner. Do any of you guys have experiance cleaning the gauge plastic. I need some advice on a cleaner/polish that will not further damage it.

Right now I have mothers plastic polish, meguiars m105 & 205. Do you guys think any of these would clean the damage and not create any further damage?

Thanks in advance

are they deep? if they are light scratches, then try Meguire's Plastic-X

not sure, to be honest, neithetr do the manufactureres.. always says test in a small inconspicuous area to test first. DO you ahve the cluster taken apart? thatd be my reccomendation.. and if it cant be done, just replace it.

Welcome. Plastic is soft and easily damaged. Polish is OK but generally requires a buffer for adequate results.

Yes, Davidv is correct, use a buffer or polishing wheel along with the Plastic-X....

I havent been able to find a DIY on taking apart the center console. Has anybody ever done it? I want to use my PC7424 on it because i think it would take care of it, but I would have to get the plasic lenses out.

Its not just the waterfall gauge pods, its mainly the main gauges(ie. tach, speedo and fuel gauge). Does anybody know how to tear that apart?

I've been told to be VERY CAREFUL around the gauge cluster because it scratches like no other. I recommend cleaning it once gently with some kind of cleaner and microfiber cloth and then using the swiffer dusters to get the dust off.....just don't touch it.
