Default Oil in coil pack wells

I did search and found a thread about this that is fairly new, but wanted better clarity on my situation so I can decided what to do before the next weekend.

Ok 2004 Z 84,000 miles. Not sure when the last spark plug change was.

Did my plugs today started with cylinders 1,3,6 every thing went good.
Then went on to cylinder 2 found some oil on the coil pack and in the well, pulled the plug and the tip looked like the ones from cylinders 1,3,6. So pull plug from 4 clean nothing wrong. Get to the plug a lot of people have oil on, cylinder 6, a lot of oil on the coil pack. Clean the oil and pull the plug, tip is like all the others no sign of oil burnt on the tip but the coil well had a lot in it. What's up? Don't know the last time the plugs were done. Bought the car at 72,000 miles. Car is modded by me (stock when I bought it) car never misfires, has plenty of power. Oil level was perfect. Should I get new valve covers? Oh the car smoked pretty bad when I first started it but died away in a few minutes. From my basic automotive knowledge if the tip of the spark plug has oil on it that is real bad. But never seen oil on just the out side of the plug. So if u guys could explain why it's doing that. Also how severe the problem is. Thanks family

Andrew

I'll quote you on that, because its exactly what happened...

This is a common problem. The seals around the spark plug wells go bad, and oil leaks into the well. You'll need to replace the valve cover.

That's guys for tge info and the link. I don't undertstand the severity of the problem. From what I understand almost 75% of Z's do this. If I replace the valve covers with OEM valve covers won't it just do it again? I haven't had a problem with misfire or oil. Thanks everyone just trying to make sense of this, don't want to replace a part with another part when the same thing might happen again

Valve covers, gaskets go bad. Nothing you can really do, its just part of the maintainance. Good thing its nothing too bad.

Check the diy threads for the install and you could tackle the task on your own vs paying someone to do it for you.

Yeah, im dealing with this too. Problem is, my #6 coil pack well is filled 50% with oil. I've got my covers, got the plenum taken off, all the coil packs taken out, but how do I get the oil out of #6? This seems to be where most of the discussions end and I don't know what to do.

Help guys, it's my daily and I need to get this resolved asap.

Thanks.

you pull the spark plug and let the oil drain back into the head....

Thanks. Yeah, I figured that out later on. I was so tired when I posted that I didn't think it through.

I'm changing out the spark plugs and last night when I changed out the #6 plug the coil didn't want to seat like the first two on the same side (#1 and #3?). In other words, when I tightened the bolt to the coil it was fine but when I first inserted it it didn't seem to grab like the first two. It tried to slightly "bounce" back up. Does this make sense? It's like the seal on the pack didn't want to match up with the seal on the plug tube. Any idea why? Thanks again.
