Default Opinions on engine noise?

Here is the scenario.

2007 350z, 71,xxx miles

When the car is in idle the engine noise is normal, nothing out of the ordinary.
When the car is revved up past 2K RPM, from the front of the engine you can hear a scratching/ slight knocking noise (as if the chain is loose inside and is hitting the inner wall of the cover). The higher the RPM the louder the noise.
Has anyone else ever experienced this?
Can anyone give any input on what might be causing this noise?
Thanks in advance!

More details.

Does it happen at a stand still? while driving? Both?

have you tried having someone rev it while you have the hood up so you can get a better idea?

Does having the AC on make any difference? Sometimes the clutch on the compressor will make a little noise when it's not engaged.

Could also be the idler pulley, if it has one.

check your oil as our cars have a oil pressure tensioner on the timing chain. could just be low on oil.
