Is my clutch slipping?
Hey guys, I have an 07 HR I just bought and I think the clutch might be going bad already... It feels fine 99% of the time but there was one time where I was stopped with the clutch depressed and the car in gear- I forgot I had left it in first and I let the clutch out the whole way and the car kicked but didn't stall I just pushed it back in and it recovered before stalling.
Is this a decent indicator the clutch is starting to slip? I know these motors have power but I would've expected it to stall as soon as I let the clutch the whole way out without giving it any gas.
Other than that it's fine even when I try the tricks (driving up a hill in 3rd at low rpms and gassing it, etc) and it just won't slip in normal driving conditions
thanks

If the clutch is slipping to any extent, you'd be smelling it and noticing that the engine revs don't match the speed as you accelerate.

If you were able to let the clutch all the way out with the car in first gear at idle without stalling, the clutch would be so totally shot that the car wouldn't be drivable. What you describe sounds more like a problem with the slave cylinder.

i made a thread a few days ago regarding my clutch as well.
it slipped out of no where when i went uphill in 5th gear at 3k rpm if i stepped on it.
it's been a week now and there are no signs of slipping whatsoever, despite me purposely trying to make it slip.
id bring it to the dealer, but they want to charge $100 just to inspect it..

Thanks guys, the car only has 33k. I don't really know what a bad slave cylinder feels like so maybe that could be it... I'll take it to a dealer- that should be covered under the 5 year warranty right

Sorry for the hijack.....
Today I went WOT in 2nd, and misshifted to 5th, the rpms dropped initially from somewhere in the 7k range (end of 2nd) down to ~5k when first thrown into 5th then they dropped to around 3k rpm (normal rpm for that speed in 5th gear) after about a second. Normally the engine would just really bog down but it didn't. I have driven 120000 MILES in my Mini, 70000 Miles in my 03 Z without any replaced clutches. I picked up my 07 HR with 28000 Miles and now has 32000 Miles, I guess anything is possible, even a worn out clutch at this low milage.
Anyways, does my misshift incident sound like I have a burnt clutch or could this somehow be related to the master slave cylinder recall issue.
