Default 2 Window Motors in a Year. Whats Wrong

Whats up guys. Im starting to get a little pissed off with changing window motors, I had to put a new window motor in my 03 350z this time last year and now its gone out already. I took it back to advance auto to get a new one and put it in yesterday, it worked fine all last night and this morning, and its not working already.

If I bang on the door pannel i can get it to work for a few mins then it will go out again. I've followed the DIY thread on this site for changing out the motor. anyone have any insight as to why my window motor keeps going out?

Because they are pieces of ****. I replaced the motor brushes myself and those have held up well so far. Bit only time will tell

yep join the party. had some last 8 mo most only a year. now to the point where I regulate how much I use the window.

here in lies the problem: the ones you buy are (typically) refurbished and since they don't make new brushes for them they just clean and give em back, and say ya buy them from o'riellys with a lifetime warranty you only get 3 exchanges before that lifetime warranty is up.

kinda a scam if you ask me. They aren't even fixing them in the first place.

Sucks soo bad...I've done 4 motors, two on each door. Now my drivers side is acting up again. If I go to put it up or down with the door open it really studders and works like ****. It's really annoying, and they are freaking expensive. Does anyone make a reproduction door motor possibly? Is this just an 03-04 issue?

It could be your window regulators getting jammed from dirt and dust building up in inside. When you use the motor on a jammed regulator, it's gonna blow the motor (not instantly obviously). Try cleaning everything inside.

OR you could just be having really bad luck with your motors. I've only had to replace mine once but I got new regulators with them and haven't had any issues since (aftermarket motors and oem regulators).

This is a big heavy window and the alignment of the window tracks and guides is not always very good. Operate both window switches at the same time, if one window rises and lowers slower than the other, it’s probably because the tracks and guides are out of ideal alignment. The extra drag will burn up this motor’s brushes. Replacing the motor without improving the window’s alignment will cause the replacement motor to also fail.

My guess is if your window can fully raise or lower in 2 seconds or less you will probably never have a motor failure. Two and a half seconds or less, you will get many, many years of good service. Anything longer than two and a half seconds, the motor is being strained. I don’t know why these motors have such soft brushes. Could it because it’s a stepper style motor (with finger pinch safety feature)?

Both of my windows can fully open or close in two seconds flat (battery fully charged with engine running). My original windows motors have been fine for the past 8 years.

It's a typical Z33 problem. My driver side windows works fine but the passenger window needs a slap every now and then and the final 20% of closing takes 3 seconds.
