Question Installed pop charger, now the car dies?

I installed an aftermarket 9" cone filter with a MAF adapter. For whatever reason the car dies when I'm at 50mph+ and push in the clutch. Similar to when you install extremely lightweight flywheels. The RPM come down so fast, it acts like it can't stop the deceleration of the RPMs. I don't have any lights and I have already checked all the vacuum lines and there are no leaks from the adapter or after the MAF sensor.

Any ideas?

Just installed it yesterday and it has done it about 6 times in the last 24 hours.

There's a known problem with cars dying at high speeds (>100mph) when you do that, but not at 50 mph. Did you install the MAF backwards by chance?

Check out post #24 in the Top 100 Questions thread.

What you are describing is not a Pop Charger. A Pop Charger is a brand name. Why don't you post a picture of what you have done?

I just put the stock intake box back in a few minutes ago.

MAF sensor was installed correctly and is not dirty

items installed:

I was just doing a test run on the filter to see if I would keep a cone style filter or if I'm going to move to something more like an ice box with an OEM drop in filter to keep the air flow linear.

No pictures at this time as I've already taken it out (left the snorkel as you have to remove the entire front bumper to take out and I've been running it with the stock intake for about a week, no problems)

Did you disconnect the negative pole on the battery before you started installation?Or,did you try to start the car while you were installing?
    If not/if so,disconnect...wait a few hours..reconnect.
See if that fixes the problem

Thanks for the info. I will try that next time. I'm going to be ordering some more parts before I reinstall the intake system.

I ordered the Apexi drop in for the time being and after winter I will be installing the new exhaust/lth, plenum spacer, intake etc etc. I think the engine will remain stock for now as I have some other things requiring attention (tires, body work, brakes)
