Default Nissan 75w-85 MTF discontinued?

I'm getting a new OEM transmission installed for my 07 (I'm out of warranty so I actually had to purchase it ). I want to run Nissan 75w-85, but came across this site:

http://www.courtesyparts.com/75w-man...956_7699_9249&

It says Nissan North America discontinued it, so I guess only 75w90 is available. Previous owner ran the 85 weight fluid and it was perfect, then when I used Amsoil 75w90 it would grind into 5th when downshifting from 6th. I called my dealer too and they don't carry it as well.

It's time sensitive since I need it for when the transmission comes. Does anyone know for sure if it's been d/c? I fear I'll have to travel pretty far to find a dealer that stocks this.

Since we're on the topic, will the new transmission already come filled with gear oil? Dealer is not involved in the process. I bought the new transmission from a vendor and having my shop do the install. That would make things easier, and I'd have enough time to stock up on the 75w85 if it actually is d/c.

I really want to stick with the OEM Nissan stuff with this new transmission, just for peace of mind.

you want piece of mind, buy some Redline MT-90 GL4... its 75w90 and some of the better/best stuff you can put in there.

And no it will not have fluid, the fluid would pour out once the driveshaft is removed, so it is traditionally drained first.

I did mention that I wanted to stick with OEM 75w-85 this time around. As soon as I switched to a 90weight my 5th gear started to grind, and from the previous owner's maintenance records, his dealership used 75w-85, which seems to be the proper type to use especially in the Northeast.

I spent hours searching here today and came across people going back to OEM from Redline and liking it better. I think these trannies are really sensitive to the type of fluid they are given.

So basically I want to stick to 75w-85 but just want to know if anyone can confirm whether or not it really is d/c. A few dealerships on the west coast sell it - just got to call them and see if they actually have it in stock. That might be my only option.

ha, they're the ones who I bought my new transmission from. Good guys, great contact. However they told me the transmission will come filled with fluid already - a special fluid for break in.

Anyway, I know about the redline 85w stuff, and that's a last resort if I can't track down OEM Nissan 75w85.

Thanks though.

I have an 07' base and replaced my oil at 43k miles with the Redline MT85, link above was cheapest source at the time. Noticeably smoother / faster shifting once replaced.

I'm now at 50k miles, 9 months later and smooth sailing.
