it dropped the oil temps by .0000000000000000007 degrees.

I'd rather use a quality filter than just some jumbo no name.

I use the filter from a vh45 (i think vh). It's from the fx45 vehicle. It's a bosch 3323 part number. It's about an inch longer than what they use for the v6 engines.

The 2 filters that have always shown best filtration is mobile 1 and bosch. They are actually both the same exact design. Metal end plates, great quantity of filtration media. The bosch is 4$ cheaper so i run that one and just change the oil more often.

There have been a number of independent people reviewing filters and the purolator didn't rate very high. Ya, it has tons of filter media but that doesn't mean it filters better. It has way smaller pleats so the resistance is increased.

Do I sense sarcasm and skepticism?

Are you basing your opinion on the WIX filter on XX amount of hours of research, or on a wimb?

What exactly do you know about this particular filter?

Here's a breakdown image of the WIX filter

FYI: AMSOIL trusts WIX filters enough that they sell them on their site.
http://www.amsoil.com/a/nanofiber-synthetic-oil-filter

Here's the description of the WIX filter from the AMSOIL website:
Made with a full metal base plate for superior strength at the double seal & also feature a silicone anti-drainback valve. Glass-enhanced media in WIX oil filters offers greater efficiency, capturing more 10 to 12 micron sized particles than other cellulose/synthetic blend medias.

Im not knocking on the BOSCHE or MOBIL 1 oil filters....Im just saying, dont dismiss WIX filters just because "you think" it is a no name brand. Just because they dont have as big a name as Bosche or M1, doesnt mean that they are no good.

if one wanted a bigger oil filter, and wanted it to be made by Bosche or M1, one could always cross reference the WIX filter number, I found, on either of their websites.

If they are that good then why are they not promoted and used heavily?

what does amsoil carrying them have anything to do with their quality? If anything they would probably choose NOT to support a product that they find superior to their own.

and of course their quote to capturing more than any other brand was done in house and tested by their own paid researchers. Any of the independent studies tested them against other filters like all the other major brands have been tested? I'd like to see an unbiased report against the major competitors just to make sure that there isn't a little bit of "advertising adjustments" made in that claim.....cause we all know that never happens.

edit: it has been tested:

"Instead of the leaf spring spacer that most filters use, these use a stiff coil spring at the top of the cartridge. The only drawback to this design is that the bypass valve seats metal-to-metal against the bottom cartridge end plate. This could allow dirty oil to seep from the dirty side to the clean side of the filter, bypassing the element."

http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oil...rence.html#wix

also, it's nitrile rubber, not silicone for the anti-drainback valve when they tested it.

bosch are noted to have a silicone seal but it also lists nitrile. Either way it doesn't matter for the amount of time they are in the car i just wanted to be clear that their advertisement of silicone isn't quite accurate when it was cut open and tested.

He does list the WIX/dana filter as a recommended filter on his site though.

What does promotion [advertisement] and quantity of sales have to do with quality?

AMSOIL is "one of" the best TRUE synthetic oils, but it isnt as "promoted and heavily used" as MOBIL 1....does that mean it isnt as good?

I never said that WIX is the best of all oil filters...Im just saying it isnt as bad of a filter as you are making it out to be.

In regards to your beloved BOSCHE Oil Filter, notice the small gap between the can wall and the filter support creating a small restriction...

In the end, every oil filter has its own pros and cons.

Just because a filter is not heavily advertised does not make it subpar to the other highly marketed (consequently more priced) filters.

I spent a full day in Mooresville NC this past week looking at 5 different NASCAR race facilities (including the shutdown Redbull facility, what looks exactly like a F1 team trying to do NASCAR ). Looking for a new home for the #71 Sprint Cup Car btw.

Anyways I can tell you that there were alot of WIX filters on the shelves. I guess a large group of NASCAR teams trust them, which says something when its going on a $100k motor.

WIX is a huge fuel filter and oil filter name in the diesel industry hence their marketing $ going to NASCAR (#39 Ryan Newman car will be fully sponsored by them this year)

All that being said I do not have a WIX filter on my car b/c in all honesty a 20 micron vs. 30 micron filter isn't going to make your engine run for 100k miles more (I'm just lazy and grab Mobil 1s at Autozone). Sure you'll have a greater pressure drop across a higher restriction filter but unless your oil system is at its limits or your dumping sand into your crank case this argument is silly.

i'm not saying that it would be a better filter if it was on tv more. That's just silly.

What i am saying is wouldn't it be higher up in the recommendations amongst racers, mechanics, engine builders, etc if they loved the filter?

Nascar has a contract with them. They have a contract with pepsi too so does that instantly mean that pepsi is the best drink? what about autolight spark plugs? From personal experience as well as friends autolight spark plugs are junk. I won't even use them in my lawn mower anymore. The reason nascar uses them is from sponsorship dollars.
