Question How much damage was caused with oil change mishap??

I got my oil changed and have been driving the car for a week no issues. I decide to wot to merge on the freeway and huge clouds of white smoke come out the back. Covering at least three lanes of traffic..........

I freak out and drive home to check out the car. On the way home the car drives fine with no smoking so i wot again to test it. Again huge clouds of white smoke.

When i get home, i pop the hood and the idiots at the oil change place didnt put the dip stick back in . So i have been driving a week with three wot clouds of smoke incidents with the dip stick not even in place.

Havent had a chance to take it out again and test it, but what kind of damage could this have caused?? Im hoping the smoke is just from oil spurting out and hitting the headers and not an internal issue .

White smoke sounds like head gasket issues... How much oil is left, about? Is your oil brown? non creamy looking?

Agree. Oil. White smoke. Don't see how they are related.

I agree with the other posts but this is a huge reason why I change my own oil.

(I know not everyone has the option of doing it themselves)

If it's truly white: head gasket.
Look under the oil cap and it'll look like someone jizzed in your oil.

I'm going with the "no relation between oil and white smoke" claims. I don't believe the oil would hit anything on its way out that would cause it to smoke. Could be wrong though /shrug.

At WOT the PCV spring is fully compressed, directing the crankcase gases to the breather hose on the back of the driver's side valve cover, or in your case the open dipstick tube. The pressure differential while moving would also pull the oil out like the old-school pre-PCV days. And there is an exhaust manifold there...plus smoke color is kinda hard to tell via mirror.

Don't go do any more "testing" until you get a new dip stick, and check your oil level. Once you've done those 2 things, I'd do a leakdown test. As long as you still have adequate oil in the engine, I bet you're fine.
