Default Gas Smell?

Car background info. 2007 Touring. 52,xxx miles, ive owned the car since about 30K.

Today I noticed a gas smell in the cabin while driving. Normal driving, stop and go and highway. This is the first time ive ever noticed it, I also picked up some new wheels so at first I thought maybe the boxes had some gas on them, but after playing with the climate control it seemed to only be when I had it set on fresh air instead of re-circulate.

I did search, I think it was the 03/04's that had a recall, didnt find anyone else with a similar problem on a HR.

Also found plenty of people having problems after installing aftermarket fuel rails, injectors, fuel return systems, FI, etc. My motor is bone stock, ive never touched it besides changing the oil. Only mods on the car are coilovers and wheels.

Any help is much appreciated.

That's odd, unfortunately I don't have a solution.. however, good luck searching for a fix.
If I get up to 5.5k+ rpm's or so, or step on the gas pedal I get a thick gas smell in the cabin, but I don't think I've ever experienced it when driving casually.

If worse comes to worst, you should take it to the dealer, even if you don't have a warranty of some sort just for a diagnosis. Last week my engine was making a strange clicking sound and I took it to a local nissan dealership and they ran a full car diagnostic for like $41 or so.

Edit : I did a basic search quickly to see if I could find anything that I could post to provide you with some insight towards your problem. These could help a little, maybe?

Thanks for the link Josh, I didnt see those 2 in my searching.

deeno, yea I did. I had someone lightly rev the engine while I looked around under the hood, didnt smell or see anything out of the ordinary.

It seemed like the smell was strongest towards the pass. side rear...right around the gas cap. I unscrewed it and re-tightened in just in case.

Im going to see if I can duplicate the problem again today.

Just drove the car around on my lunch break with the AC on fresh air and wasnt able to duplicate the problem.

Maybe I ran over some gas or something.

I will post if it happens again.
