Lightbulb Hatch Lift Spring Substitute

Hey guys I need new hatch lift springs...these are the silver rubber spring things in the pic below...they're black stock, I guess this guy painted his.

Before I spend $30+ for each of these things I'd rather see if I can use some kind of cheaper spring alternative from somewhere like home depot, lowes, walmart, hardware store, auto parts store.

Do you guys have any ideas?

Why would you need new ones?

cuz I they weren't on the car when I got it...you have any ideas for substitute? I figure its about 2-3 inches tall with a 1'' or 1.5'' diameter...but the only springs I've found in this range are really thin...I need thicker ones with more strength

Maybe I use a few on each side...any ideas?

That's a flash picture, they're just regular black rubber.

So, your car is currently completely missing that entire assembly?

I would go for *any* wrecking yard first - otherwise, suck it up and get the replacements. There is a quickfix of shoving some quarters inside the rubber boot if they're not strong enough.

Do it right or don't do it at all. A $30 investment in your car is too much? Sad.

.
incorrect.

They are a spring covered in a black rubber boot and are what pops the trunk lid up when the latch is released.

They are 30 dollars each from courtesy nissan or West Covina nissan.

Please buy the correct items to upkeep your car.. making your own is completely silly.. jsut live without them if you can afford the replacement costs.

check a junkyard if you want to go cheap, but don't put a poor substitute in instead
