Default Upgraded to Xenons, engine problems!!??

Hey guys I just installed my 08 headlights today. I cut the harness from my old light and just connected the wires and everything works great. The problem is, when I turn on the headlights, the engine shuts off a few seconds later... It's not the engine but something electrical because I see the revs slowly going down. The lights also do not power up all the way so the beam is blue instead of white.

Any suggestions? My service engine soon light also came on

So you did not have factory HIDs before the install?

Nope... Im thinking it might be a fuse issue since the car is not used to pulling that much power for the headlights?

HIDs use less power - you wired something wrong. What exactly did you do?

So I cut off the 8pin connector off the 06 headlight and wired in a 6pin connector that I took off of my 05 lights. I matched the colors because online DIY's showed the diagram and colors matching. Everything works fine, I dont have the constant blinker and they work as signals and hazards. DRLs work, and low beam and high beam work fine.

Well I found a guide on another website and it said you have to swap a 20 amp fuse to replace your existing one, so evidently the HIDs for the Z are more power hungry.

Never heard that before, most HIDs are 35 watt.

Also, those DRLs arent really supposed to be there, you need to pull the blue wire out.

The DRLs are the parking light that runs with the first flick of the Headlight setting.

I saw that post about the 20A fuse too... But no one else has ever said that before...

I might just have to try it.

So the problem is that the lights are taking power. If I turn them on with the engine on, it messes up the throttle position sensor. Alternator and battery checkout, but pretty much the lights are robbing power from the engine.

I need the car to produce more electrical power... any suggestions?

Trust me............the HID lights take less power to run than the halogen lights. You have wired something incorrectly.

Definitely wiring error, I have an 05 with 06 headlights no issues. One of the wires is not used for the 05.

I am definitely sure its not a wiring issue. Everything works great... parking lights, blinkers, and low and high beams. It just sucks the power...

Mr. Sparco did you have an 05 Base model? would you be able to post a picture of it connected?

Thanks,
Teja

If you wired it up correctly, you shouldn't be having issues. I have an 05 base and did the swap back in 06, this is all I could find.

I followed your diagram. The first picture is the 8pin looking at the opening right?

The second 6pin diagram is the view from behind the connector (the way the wires go into the pins rather than the pins themselves rite?)

If above is right, then all of my wires match up perfectly.

I will try and replace the dead battery... might help.

I don't remember it's been almost 7 years. I drew that on my knee while soldering.

wiring definitely checks out with other diagrams too. This is getting very frustrating. I rewired everything again and still the problem persists. It may be my dead battery.

Whew! Got it working!

I decided I should just go back to the basics and try wiring up a relay... So I bought a 35A relay and some wires at pepboys and now the ballasts run straight from the battery. The ballasts now easily ignite without messing with the TPS and shutting the engine down
