Question Have you replaced a clutch yet?

If you've replaced a clutch, please not the mileage and the circumstances. Thanks!

I'm curious to see how well the Z's clutches are holding up. I've heard rumors of defective clutches and I remember a member WAY back who had clutch problems from day one.

-Jon (had an insanely rattling clutch, but it always functioned A-OK up until 6500 miles when I sold the car)

WashuJon,

I just got mine back from the dealer last night. New tranny and clutch. 24,414 miles. I remember you and I talked about the horrible chatter when pushing in the clutch in first gear. The new clutch does not do that at all. It may be my imagination but the engagement seems more precise, too. Big improvement. The ticket said noisey clutch so it could have been the chatter they were referring to.

Did they replace the transmission and clutch because of the noise or was the transmission also grinding, so they just changed both?

something on my car makes a horrible rattling sound when in the low rpm's in 1st and 2nd gear! i'm guessing that it may be the clutch...car goes in monday

if the clutch is the problem and they decide to replace it is it possible in any way to request the money to spend on an upgraded clutch?

also what are some signs of the tranny going bad? are the problems with the clutch and tranny related?

I never really had the grind people talk about except for two missed shifts on my part. I did have the chatter, a slight slipping in the clutch. A drone at 4500 + RPM and buzzing vibration in the shifter. The vibration was very, very audible

I just got my Z back from the dealer 2 days ago, after being in the shop for 4 weeks! They did replace the clutch, however, it was like pulling teeth. I believe that they did not reinstall everything correctly when they installed my new transmission. Well the new clutch is very, very wierd. I have been driving a manual for over 4 years, but i have stalled my Z twice while driving it home (I had never stalled it with the previous clutch). It is very rough and jerky when i shift gears or start, even if I try to be gentle with it. Anyone else notice this?

No problems here, and that's with over 18K miles including 14 track days.

53k miles. Still have the same stock clutch. I'll swap out to a JWT when this one starts slipping, if ever.

i'm at 18k and on original clutch. the sound i thought might be my clutch waws just the rear axle problem, and the transmission was replaced around 9k miles (and i definitely should have gone with a lightweight clutch/flywheel combo then since i wouldn't have had to pay for service).

42k miles, stock clutch. still going strong. will going to JWT if needs replacement.

The way the clutch is holding, I am guessing it will probably be wearing out around 60K?

swapped out to tilton full-street at 8k miles, no problems with stock...

getting ready to replace the tilton with either the stock unit or another tilton (depending on whether the new noise is tranny noise or not) -- i really wouldn't be surprised if the tilton is shot, i've been beating the crap out of it for 8k miles, slipping like mad at every stop, too

68k and no clutch problems. I need to check the rear-end issue though. When letting off the gas, in gear, between 3400 and 3100 RPM the shifter has a mean vibration. This has always been the case and since I have a 100k warranty, haven't put much thought into it.

yes, had to have mine replaced at 6,500 miles... only dumped it two or three times, and had the car delivered to me (the only things i could think of that hurt it). not sure if they replaced the tranny or not, but i believe they did, considering it took 2 and a half weeks to get my car back...
