Tank only fills 3/4 tank. Took to Dealer. Fuel Senders both normal?!
Just bought a 2005 350z and i have been having a problem with whenever i fill up the tank it only reads as 3/4th full and only lets me fill it 12-13 gallons.
I took it to the dealer today and they said they tore it apart and checked it out and that both Fuel Senders were normal.. I have 3 service records from the previous owner that all state that he had the exact problem, and I guess those three dealers didnt fix it either (they replaced the fuel senders).. What is going on? I researched on here and it seems a lot of others are having the same problem. Most the time I see it says its a shutter valve problem. Wouldnt the dealer figure this out?! They basically told me that there is no problem and good luck. Most the articles ive seen about this problem were from a few years ago so hopefully someones figured out a fix by now
really appreciate it!

Its a common issue, there is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin). The fill control vent valve gets splashed with fuel too early and shuts the nozzles off.
The solution, at least for my 2007, is a little metal shield that snaps around the valve. It requires pulling fuel pump / level sender assembly out and reaching pretty far into the tank to blindly snap the shield on.
Needless to say i have the parts but have procrastinated completing the job, besides thats 30 lbs of fuel your not lugging around making you slower

Mine is hit or miss... sometimes I can fill it all the way up sometimes 3/4 I guess it depends on the gas station... pull the nossle half way out while topping it off slowly can get it all the way up but you have to be careful not to overfill.
Thanks guys, ya i will check it and report back on next refill. I will just fill it and check to make sure I dont overfill.
I am about to do my 60k service and thinking of taking it to Precision Z which is right by my place, heard very good things. Ill have them take a look at it.
thanks
