Default A/C Compressor replacement

So, my AC has been acting up. First the air wouldn't blow as cold air as it used to and then it started making LOUD banging/grinding sounds. So i took it into my mechanic. After he checked it all out he says, "the AC is completely "fried" and wont charge." So I'm going to need a new one according to him. Quoted me 1400$+ for parts & labor. My questions are, You think it would be warrantied since the Z only has 35k miles and is an 07? And any other places or aftermarket companies that sell cheaper parts? thanks.

There's a reason a warranty has hard limits on time and mileage - so questions like this won't come up. This is 2012, assuming the inservice date was 2007 or 2008 at the latest, my guess is you are way out of warranty (> 36 months).

You can probably buy cheaper aftermarket replacements but they are most likely rebuilds and probably won't last very long. Don't skimp or you may be doing this again in the future.

yeah, i figured. It's just frustrating it would fail at only 35k.
