Nismo cold air intake filter replacement
Hi,
I have a 2005 350z with Nismo R-Tune modifications.
I'd like to replace the cold intake filter but it seems like there are at least
two different sizes a 2.75" and a 3". Is there an easy way to determine which
size I need?
I should note that I bought this car used and I'm not really handy with cars so
please be gentle :-)
I also would like to know if I can use a generic filter or a K&N filter, since I try
to purchase this filter in a couple of websites and they came back saying they
are out of stock and they don't know when they would get any new filters.
I also know that these filters can be cleaned but as I mentioned, it's easier for me if I can buy a new one and have someone replace the old one.
Thanks for your help,
Afshin

You should be able to get a replacement filter at most chain auto parts stores.
It sounds as though you are not a DIY guy.I'd think you could remove the filter(
has a worm gear clamp, take it down to a auto parts sore and get a replacement
with the same diameter.
Cleaning your filter is no big deal. You can get a K&N "recharge" kit at the same
parts store.Really only need the oil spray. To clean your filter, just spray on some soap
or dishwashing detergent, soak in a bucket of warm water.Hose it off.Air dry or blow
it out if you have lawn blower...set it in the sun. After it dries,Apply the oil spray per the instructions.
No need to buy a new filter unless yours is damaged.

Hi JCity,
Thanks for your reply. Last time I looked the filter was down there kind of behind the front
bumper and didn't seem to be easily accessible. I'll take another look.
Assuming I'd want to replace the filter, do you know if I'd have to use a Nismo filter or I
can buy a similar K&N filter?
I actually called an Autozone branch and they said they don't handle Nismo and I need to
talk to Nissan but Nissan dealership wasn't really helpful either!
Thanks,
Afshin

There is K&N filter cleaner/recharger kit that contains a cleaner and a reoiler. Just use the cleaner and don't use the oil and you're filter will be good as new
