Default Hard time starting.

For the last couple of months I've noticed just a very slight lag in start time when I crank my 07 Enthusiast (60k miles, great condition). I checked the battery, which I think is the original, and added a tiny bit of water to the cells but no improvement. No CE lights have ever come on and it still cranks on the first try....just takes afew more spins of the starter than usual.

This morning, which was no colder than the last few weeks, I had to turn the key 3 or 4 times before it fired up. The starter was turning it, it just wouldn't fire. When it fired up, it was fine. No lights, ran like normal. My drive to work is about 10 minutes. I shut it off and cranked it again and it fired right up.

I know it is probably the battery. I will take it by AutoZone or whatever and get them to test it. But, I have a track weekend coming up in 5 days and I'm just wondering if there is anything else that might be causing this that I need to check before I go to the track. And again, it has not thrown any codes yet.

Thanks for any help.

Have cranked it three more times today and no problems since it has warmed up outside. Must be a failing battery.

it should throw a code, but sounds very similar... However, based on what you've said seems like a battery to me.

You won't throw a code until the sensor goes out completely.
Most times you get "blips".It starts to go out, then its ok.
The hard starting, car cutting off at idle gets more frequent.
On the OPS problem,I would check the battery first.

When my CPS failed, car would start fairly normally when cold, not so much when warm. I too would be guessing battery as cranking alone does not tell you much - it's the amps needed to start that could be missing. And 4-5 years is about it for most batteries.

It was the battery. Replaced it and it starts just fine. But now that the battery has been replaced I'm having serious trouble driving at slow speeds. It surges and then tries to stall. Discussed here:

I'm a Columbus local. Just started having an intermittent starting issue late last night on my 2005 Anniversary with 57k. LOL. Happened again today after the car was driven 30 minutes and was still warm. I'm going to start with a gas cleaner additive and a full take of high quality premium (I think I have Sam's Club premium in it now). If that doesn't fix it and it's not throwing codes, how hard is it to replace the CPS? Fortunately I have an even cleaner 2004 touring to drive which may be the issue since the Anniversary hasn't gotten a lot of drive time this year...

Camshaft position sensor replacement is pretty easy. Just go with OEM and not an aftermarket brand.
