Question Low Pressure and knocking!!!

I have an 05 350Z performance. I went out for a cruise and then i suddenly heard some knocking. I got out of the car and it was loud. I checked the oil and it was smoking. Also, I had to change out my oil a couple days ago even though i still hav about 800 miles left. I poured some oil in that i had in my trunk, and the knocking got quieter. This has been happening for a while wenever i get to my oil change date or a couple days past it. but wen i change it out it stops knocking. Does anyone know wat could possibly be the cause????

When you add oil does the noise go completely away or just quieter?

What oil are you using? Could be too heavy especially in the colder weather.

How low is your oil level when the knocking starts? If your levels are ok then something could be preventing oil getting to the lifters or your lifters are bad. A bad oil pump could also be the issue.

I'm sure someone on here knows way more than I do but it's a starting point.

How low is the pressure and how often and how much oil are you adding.

Your engine is burning oil over time. Its somewhat common with the VQ. You get the noise when your engine has burned some off and it doesn't have enough to properly lubricate everything. From now on, check oil levels every couple of weeks and top it off.

Are you serious?

Your engine is burning oil, running low, then making noise. Wtf, keep the oil full, and decide when you want rebuild the engine.
