Default source of mold smell found!!

I have been trying to find the source of this mild mold smell in my car. I found a wet spot on the passenger side carpet, so I took out the carpet on that side to find out that the insulation under it was soaking wet. Has anyone had this problem before? Any idea where the water could be coming from?

Usually an indicator that your weatherstripping is bad or needs to be rechecked to make sure it is installed correctly

I agree. I had the same issue. Smelled like mold after it rained but it was on the drivers side.

Make sure it is not antifreeze, then get in your car and have somebody hose it down and see where it is coming in at.

Well I found the problem....the jacklegs who installed the new stereo system drilled a hole for the amp power wire and didn't seal the hole at all. So water was just poring into my car.

'Tards. "Professional" just means you paid them, eh!
There was no way it could have been heater core, etc because the smell of coolant is obvious inside a car.

I thought maybe it could have been water getting in from the ac fan since i have seen that happen in one of my other vehicles so when I looked up there I could see all the way in to the engine bay...

have you checked the heater core matrix for leaks behind the dashboard which would explain the smell. Check to see if the coolant level has dropped at all before you start taking things apart to get to it.

I was just getting ready to tell you that. They took the easy not smart way of running the power wire.

Best bet is to chaulk the crap out of it. Either with the wire in it or get the wire to the amp another way. Should be fine after that.

That is way worse then I expected. I figured they would of put it thru the rubber boot the rest of the wires go thru but that is a pain so they probably couldn't be bothered with that.

I ended up making my own rubber gromlet and then put a few layers of sealent on it haha. But the car is back together and all sealed up now.
