wrecked my Z pretty bad , what do I do now?
hey guys,
Last night I hit a...cow that was standing in the middle of the road, I was doing 55mph, when i saw it, it was too late. The beast flipped over my car , got up and left like nothing happened. I am now trying to figure which route I should go... Is it worth fixing it If I do most the repairs myself or am I better of selling it as is? 2003 touring with a little above 100k miles

I only have liability...so my only 2 options are sell it as is or fix it... i do not even have a clue how much I could get out of it if I sold it this way.
I don't understand why people buy a sports car and then don't have full coverage. It is not that expensive for full coverage, for me 75.00 a month. You live and you learn. You will have to shell out money now to get a new car.
Not even worth fixing. Part out any items that are not damaged, such as suspension, wheels, exhaust, tailights, and then scrapyard the rest.
Then, get a new car, and place REAL INSURANCE COVERAGE on it!

Buddy, you screwed up big time by only having liability on a car of that caliber. I can see having liability on some beater worth 2 grand or less, but not on a Z. Hopefully you learn your lesson from it. Just sell what u can off of it I guess.
I sure did learn my lesson...I'm actually on a visa here and since I am not a US citizen if I wanted full coverage I had to pay around 360... for liability I was paying 150. bad decision... now I lost 11k. So should I part it out or sell the whole thing as it sits?

Good luck and I'm glad you're alright and you learned your lesson.
Sorry to hear about the situation. Glad you are ok.
Agreed, I think you're pretty much out of luck. I wouldn't bother with repairs. Do you have a loan out on the car?
Did you call insurance already? If not.. get full coverage now, sit around selling parts for a few months (paying insurance) and throw it over a cliff. Then report it stolen.
But seriously, I think this is one of those things that look worse than it really is. Assuming the engine still runs strong and there's no frame damage.
New hood - ~$500
New bumper - $100
New lights - $200
New front/rear windshield - ~$250
+ everything cracked in engine bay. Can't tell from pictures, but doesn't seem to be a lot of things.
Keep everything stock and buy used, you're maybe looking at around $1,500-$2,000.

I'd say this is more than 2k in damage IMO.
He could just kick the front and rear windows out, chop the top and have a ZR for the price of a Saws All?
most people don't want to drive a beatpuss car tho.

New steering wheel, new dash, new roof(unless the cow flew up from JUST hitting the windshield and it the back windshield) new A pillars, new B pillars...EDIT, just saw, new passenger side mirror, and possible new "tree air freshener" too . It most likely got used up after OP shat him/herself.

he might not need new a/b pillars. Yeah I didn't even see the side mirror lolOP you need to post up some better pictures

I'm sure a little ArmorAll and elbow grease will fix that though.
Not to mention OP MAY want airbags for his/her future cow endeavors. Passenger side alone is $500+ iirc

Dash looks untouched? you mean besides the small explosion that came through it when the airbag deployed?

Never really paid attention to passenger side as I only spent maybe 30 minutes riding passenger lifetime in a Z lol

OP is indeed fotunate that cow did not go through the windshield. All the Z safety and structural systems worked as they should and he ended up walking away from what could have easily been a fatal accident. Not so lucky was the cow, who undoubtedly suffered internal injuries, and probably wandered off to die.
Looking at the list of parts required to repair this Z car will easily exceed $10K. That's if the OP is a crack wrench and knows how to rebuild the car by themselves. So, what's to do now? Just think about how your car saved your life and thank your lucky stars you survived it.
