I agree, I replaced the struts for stronger units which are built to handle the additional load of a spoiler, which I don't have, and replacing the struts alone does not assist in the initial release, or pop of the hatch.

Either do this little quick fix or replace the springs.

you think if i added another nickel it would give my hatch enough pop to catch the struts and just open up? i have the z1 upgraded struts (medium grade) the hatch unlocks i just always have to give it a little push with my hand to open up

Tape a nickel on each side to find out before install.

OK… If your hatch won’t “pop” after installing new struts and springs, then it’s probably misaligned. When the hatch is not aligned properly, the release might not work since the pressure is angled instead of straight. This is not a common problem with the Z since the hatch design is nearly bulletproof. Owners having the problem are often unfortunate buyers of cars that have been in rear-end crashes that they did not see on the Carfax report.

If your hatch fails to “pop,” have your dealer evaluate the problem. A fix typically requires service from a reputable body shop familiar with the Z car.
