Default Gas tank shut off defective? Help

Hey everyone,

So I have had my 08 ppw z since january and this is the first time I have encountered this problem and it sucked... I was filling up my Z at the gas station today with the light on E, and note that it was raining. I was in my car and I looked up at the pump meter and it said 18 gallons on the pump... I spent $70... I get out of my car and gas is overflowing out of the tank! Im guessing about to Gallons was wasted, and because it was raining so hard I didnt hear the gas... Now my question is is the pump at fault for not shutting off like normal? Or is a sensor of some sorts on my car failing? I know I should have stayed by the pump and not in my car, but it was raining sideways.... Also I did a little search but does anyone know just off the top of your head how many gallons the 08 has? Any help would be awesome thanks!

Your car doesn't shut off the gas pump. Sounds like the station's problem.

^ This......the shut-off mechanism (Venturi Pump) is in the nozzle, not the car.

LOL I stand outside in the winter filling my Jeep at -35C. There is no excuse to sit while you fill... You deserve it, and have nothing to blame except yourself.

I completely agree, and was just affirming my ignorance. Just trying to learn from my mistake. Thanks for the flaming though I figured it would happen.

You're welcome.

Definitely the pump though. Not your car.

Definitely a problem with the pump, not your Zed. The fuel tank holds 80 litres or just over 17 and a half gallons.

You sure it's not a 20 gallon/ 76 liter tank ?

Samsniss might be British where they use the obsolete Imperial Gallon (approximately 20% larger than the US gallon). Don’t know if the Brit Zs got a larger 80 litre (liter in American spelling, dumb I know) tank.

".....not your Zed." Why use Zed instead of just Z?

Agree. The pump shuts off the gas not the car. I assume that the pump nozzle shuts off the pump when it experiences a resistance from gas at the top of the filler neck. Has nothing to do with the car.

Yes, but what's funny to me is that is how they *pronounce* the letter Z. It's not like when they write out the alphabet they go W X Y Zed. That wouldn't make any sense...it's one letter. One. But I get what he was doing because he wanted to indicate that's how he pronounces it. Just funny.

Meh, that's how they pronounce it. Afterall, british english is the original english language. To them we're the ones that pronounce it wrong.

Oh No, I've been found out, I've managed 220 posts as a spy in the camp and as soon as i log on and am a little bit wasted I blow my cover, lol. Yeah you got it I'm British as Jennifer 2 was quick to latch onto and yes ours are bigger than yours (gallons, nothing else) and we do pronounce our letter Z differently to you and we all call our Zee's, Zeds. As for the spelling of Litre, i personally blame the French (its a struggle but, no comment) as inventors of the metric system we followed their spelling. Like all nations we have our weird idiosyncrasies, but as i see it we're all united by our love for the car we drive. There are quite a few British sites, but none with the amount of traffic that this site has which is why i occasionally like to check out what's going on overseas.
