Default Dipstick/Oil Level Question.

Hello everyone,

How much oil does it take to get from the minimum line on the dipstick ("L") to the top line of the dipstick ("H")?

I'm curious because I want to monitor the oil loss. So far, I went down about 2mm in 800miles. Is this normal? I know some DE's burn oil and others do not.

Would the Z last long if it suffers from oil consumption even if I keep topping it off? I figure I might lose about a quart in 3,000 miles.

I wouldn't call that oil consumption. You're golden with that small amount of oil loss.

Thanks for the replies so far.

From H to L is only one quart?

I got my 04 Z hoping I wouldn't suffer from oil consumption. Is it possible to reach 200k even when a DE is consuming oil? I have no clue how much I'm burning with the Pennzoil Platinum but last oil change I had Castrol Edge (10w30) and lost about 3/4 of a quart in 1,500 miles. Would this be considered normal?

I've been reading nonstop about oil consumption here and on G35Driver. Does anyone know the culprit of oil consumption on the DE? Does changing out the PCV valve work?

I haven't done an oil analysis yet but I will be doing one when it's time for an oil change.

I'm a bit worried because I love the Z but I don't want to have to deal with any issues down the road. :/

Bro relax lol, your car is fine. The DE towards the 100k mile mark starts to consume a little bit of oil, if your losing a one half quart to a quart between oil changes, its about normal. Just monitor your oil, and you will be ok.

I heard adding an oil catch can will reduce oil consumption.
