Default Problem with shifting

Hello I have a 04 350z manual transmission. I am having problems with my shift ****. Normally it feels fine and you can feel it click into gear, but recently I have been having this problem where my shift **** feels super light and loose. Especially when I shift into 2nd it is like I barely need to use any force.

Also when shifting into 2nd with that problem it doesn't feel smooth and I can sort of hear this weird sound.

Anyone know whats wrong?

Wow... Thanks for the insightful explanation of your problem.

"I can sort of hear this weird sound."

Write a thorough explanation that actually gives something to go off of.

Sorry the sound is really hard to describe. I hear this sound either from my wheels or some where in front of my clutch pedal. And it sounds like wind blowing through a tunnel after I feel the clutch engage when I put it into 2nd. It just doesn't feel or sound smooth compared to the other gears.

How do I tell if it is grinding? Because when there isn't this problem everything works well. Going into 2nd I can feel it clicking into 2nd and when I release the clutch it is smooth and no weird sound when the clutch engages. The shift **** also feels stiffer when everything is okay.

Now that I can work with

1st to 2nd is notchy in mine as well. Same in my Jeep (and most other manual transmissions I've driven as well). It's just a tough shift.

You are likely hearing flywheel chatter. These cars are notorious for it. But based on your description, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks so much! It kind of sucks that it just doesn't feel the same when I shift into 2nd gear, but as long as nothing is wrong I'm happy.

I can't guarantee nothing is wrong, I'm just replying with the most likely explanation from the provided info. You'll eventually get used to it and won't even notice it.

Definitely keep an eye on the "loose" feeling though, and if things get worse come back with a very detailed explanation.

Someone else will likely weigh in tomorrow as well, so check back.

It has been very hot recently.

I'm going to call a shop tomorrow and see whats up. It is so annoying with that loose feeling I can literally shift into gear with 1 finger using barely any force.
