Driver side window. Fri 13th motor death..maybe.
Sup guys,
So my driver side window is giving me **** on friday the 13th, go fig right.
So I get in the car this morning for work, temp was nice so I put the windows down. Then I noticed the driver side window stopped working couldn't get it to go up..until I smacked the door panel while pushing the window button then it would work. Seems like a lose connection. Also auto close and open function when opening and closing door when car is off is hit or miss.
Window works I just have to smack the door panel sometimes, which would indicate something lose and not fully connected.
So, should I dissemble and clean, try the reset button, or just replace the motor?
Thanks guys.
p.s. Already searched for same symptoms and fixes but I want some opinion's.

It sounds like your motor is on the way out. That's what mine started to do until it would stop working for a couple of days and then just start again. You can try the reset but my guess is a dodgy motor. Our cars are renown for it.

Sounds like it's on it's last legs

I wont be touching the window button's that for sure would hate to have it get stuck and then rain come.
Of all the days for this to happen Fri the 13th
Just got a PM from a very reputable shop (Enjuku Racing) here in FL that has what I need
One other question. How well does the window seal when its partially closed? (i.e. When the door opens it moves down a little bit vice versa when closing door ) If it gets stuck and it rains how good is the seal to keep the water out?
I'm gonna look like a jackass getting in and out of the passenger side to make sure the window doesn't get stuck on the driver side when I open it.
Thanks again.

My passenger side did that. Would go down but not back up until I hit the side of the door. It did that for probably a week or two then it went out. So I got it up and locked it where no one could roll it down.. A couple months later I unlocked it as it worked fine for about three days then went out for good.
It will keep rain drops out but not moisture. Your windows will fog up

Read half of this. Partially sealed window will leak slightly into the interior, but no big deal. I've driven in the rain with my windows down plenty of times - who the fk cares - it's just water.
The problem is the little brush in the window motor. You can clean it with electrical spray, and it will work for a few more months, and then fail again. I ended up just buying re-manufactured Autozone window motors with a lifetime warranty (that's one option). Another option is to go around to hobby shops and look for an electric motor that has a brush matching the Z's except hopefully it's not as soft. I've heard of a few very savvy people doing this.
If you replace/repair window motors it's likely possible wont roll up or down at the same speed, and if you're an **** retentive person... buy 2 new OEM window motors so they are in sync with each-other.

This was covered somewhere else a long time ago on here I think, cuz mine was doing the same and the other post had pics. The motor is on its way out, there is excessive carbon inside and it will soon fail. The reason it works when u hit it is the vibration makes the carbon dust/flakes move and allow slight electrical contact to let the motor work. Replace it quick or youll get stuck like me with the window down.
This is a very common with 350z's and also G35. Basically gunk builds up in the motor that you gotta clean it out. If done well motor can last you a good while. Both sides of intensive gone poop already. Gonna be doing the cleanup myself or have a friend do it for me. There is a write up in here on how to clean the motor yourself.
