Default No power to fuel pump...good fuse. No power at relay?

Hey guys, I'm trying to finish up the twin turbo project that I bought, and when I turn the key to on, I don't hear the fuel pump. It's an aftermarket walbro fuel pump that was in the car when I picked it up and from what I read, the wally should be pretty loud when it's primed.

I checked the fuse and it's fine. Tested the connector that clips onto the fuel pump when I turn the car to on, and no power. So I was wondering if it was a bad relay, so I swapped the ac relay and the fuel pump relay (since they are the same) and tried to see if I had power this time, still nothing.

What can I check next?

Also, another thing that I can mention is that when I turn the car to on, the radiator fans come on. Is there a connection between the fans coming on and no power to the fuel pump? Someone please help. I just want to fire my Z up!

Wait a second , so you said you tested the connector and nothing ? Too bad you don't have pics but what I would do is first make sure the pump even works and isn't blown. What was the story behind the car and kit you got it in non running form ?

The IPDM controls the power to the fans and to the fuel pump

Check if you are getting power to the fuse, then check if the relay is getting power when you cycle the key on, that should narrow it down. When you unplug the relay one socket should have power, when you cycle the key, two sockets will have power.

So upon reading all sorts of posts in the last day, it appears as though my ecu isn't getting power. In every post I read, the radiator fans coming on full blast and a solid red security light (when the key is in "on" position) means no communication with the ecu...So, now it looks like I need to find a new ecu, right? I brought the ecu home with me and I was going to open it up to see if I could find any signs of burning or something. Should I look anywhere in particular?

Are you on the stock ecu? If theres no communication with the ecu there will not be a check engine light with the ignition on.

Some more information on this car would be nice. Especially history of the car and the last work to be done to it when its running. Ecu's can go bad, but not very often. Its entirely possible that something else was disturbed while it's being worked on.

You need to get handy with a multimeter before you start condemning expensive parts. Check all the ecu power and grounds first.

The stock ecu was in there with a turbo xs utec connected to it. I also tried just having the stock ecu plugged in and it made no difference. I can't remember whether or not the service engine light was on, but I want to say no.

I had the multimeter out checking the fuel pump for power, so I can get as handy as needed. Haha. Just tell me where and what I need to be checking. The reason I jumped to the ecu being bad is because of a thread I found on 350z tech or something. The op of that thread was having the EXACT same problems as me and it seemed to be his ecu being fried.

Here's the for sale thread to my car, it has everything that you're asking for history-wise: https://my350z.com/forum/cars-for-sa...o-project.html

So, anymore info on what my next step should be? The car is at my parent's house, in my dad's garage, and I'll be heading over there in a couple of hours. I need to know what my next plan of action should be.

Is the security system shutting you down? Did you try a different key?

I'm assuming you hooked it up to a scan tool. That will tell you immediately if your ecu is fried because it won't be able to communicate with it.

Well I feel like a fuggin idiot. I decided to check all the harness' connector plugs all over the car to make sure everything was snug and they were. Then I decided to check all the fuses, one by one, and I found that one of them was blown. (can't remember which one it was, but I do remember that it was a 15a fuse) Replacing it fixed the ecu communication problem and I was finally able to start my Z!

Unfortunately for me, where I have the fuel lines coming to a t from the rails to get to the regulator, I didn't have the fitting completely tightened...soo after I started my car I hurried up and shut it back of because I smelt gas and seen it dripping from underneath my car. I figured that it wouldn't be a huge deal; I'd just have to take the upper and lower intake manis off to have better access to my fuel lines, and I could add some teflon tape to the threads, tighten everything back up and boom, all good.

When I was done tightening everything, I tried to route the fuel lines like I had them and ended up pushing too hard on one (trying to force it into the right position) and I put a small crack in one of the line's fittings right by where it connects to the front of the fuel rail...

Needless to say I was extremely pissed at myself and now I just have to get a new fitting for my fuel line. Then I should be all good. I can get the car completely reassembled and I can start figuring out my turbo xs utec.

Might be time to double check everything you've done to it, just to be safe.

Thanks guys. Yeah, that fitting will be in tomorrow, so once I get that installed, I'm going to double check everything. Then I'm going start putting the front bumper, hood, and splash guards on, then I just gotta get my interior put back together and bleed my clutch since the previous owner replaced the clutch and flywheel when he started the tt build. Then finally I should have a good functioning TTZ!
