Crank/no start on occasion
Hello, new forum member here.
I've got an '03 and it's started having a weird issue that is intermittent. The engine cranks but won't fire. Initially, I thought the battery was dying, so had a friend jump me (engine fired immediately). Took the car to Autozone and had them test the battery; tested good, but needed charge, so I took it home and charged it. Issue happened a couple more times, so I decided to go ahead and replace the battery. Replaced it, and now still having the same problem. Also, when it DOES start after having this problem, the belts squeal like mad. They look good...but could it possibly be the problem?
Scratching my head trying to figure this one out...

Is it the security system? There are several threads about this and no real solution usually. Next time it is cranking and not starting look at the red LED in front of you up on the dash by the windshield. If it is on while it is cranking you are being locked out from starting the car because the key was not read correctly by the security system. You get everything but fuel delivery - the ECU cuts out the fuel so it cannot start. If this is your problem read up on it and don't try and start your car immediately three times off the same key read cycle or you will permanently lock out that key and have to try your spare key to start it!
If this is the case, you can do some research on it maybe even get it fixed by the dealer but it will cost you $ and they may not find the root cause. It can be a pain. Hopefully it is not your problem and it could be the crank sensor like was already stated. These two items are usually the cause for crank but no start.
