Default Replaced my ECU now the AT is acting weird.

Got my engine re-built due to a flurry of issues I faced with this damn car.

One of the things I replaced was the ECU because 2 shops diagnosed it and said it was gone. So I bought a replacement from Zfever, programmed it with Uprev to have the NATS removed and tuned it for my mods.

My car is Auto and I noticed the label on the ECU has "manual" written on it. I clearly said to the shop that I got the Auto so I assumed he totally had everything taken care of to get it working on my car.

Engine is finally done, the ECU is in. First thing I noticed was that cruise control isn't functioning at all. Ok, no issues here.

The main problem I am facing are the following:
1) Car would not downshift in D mode no matter how I floor it. It just revs to 3.5 k and shift like I'm driving normally.

2) Tiptronic mode has some massive delay before it decides to shift. Before this whole BS happened, my AT was perfectly fine - Transgo VB was very, very responsive and the tyres would squeal a bit with 1-2-3 shifts. Now it just waits for about 2 seconds before it shifts and when it shifts it lets the clutch slip for a while like a frikking oldschool automatic family car.

AT oil is new and fluid level looks fine.

Any idea what's wrong? What would be the first step to get this sorted out?

Last resort is to convert the car to Manual but that will happen only maybe next year.

The simplest solution might be to get the correct ECU for your car. If the ECU that was installed is for the manual transmission, I doubt you can make it work correctly with the automatic.

You have the wrong ECU for your car... do you happen to know the ECU part #, and what it was on your original ECU?

Wrong ECU, the 5AT isn't getting the torque signals it needs to raise your line pressure for tight shifts and know when to downshift...

I'm not sure you're ever going to be happy with it. Swap it out before the return period expires.
I changed out my daughter's ecu, plug and play, runs great!
Good luck!

Ah #@$%! this sucks. I don't know why they would give me a MT ECU.
I'm just gonna keep it for future MT tranny swap maybe.

Thanks for chiming in, guys. It all makes sense now. It's been over 3-4 months now since I bought the ECU because I also re built my engine.

So even Uprev tC management cannot help with this issue?

I can go and pull out the ECU to give you the exact part numbers if you guys require but i am 100% sure they are different when I saw them.

Did you have to delete the NATS when you change your ECU? What kind of procedure did you do? I just want a quick solution for now.

Thanks

DJ,
Honestly it was so simple. My daughter has a Dodge Caravan. The shop it was towed to did wiring troubleshoot bc an injector always on, said they couldn't find correct ecm. I google search for ecm, look at a few reviews, decided on a shop in FLA. I call the guy, give him my vin, mileage and mb 1 or 2 questions/answers. Drop shipped to my shop, installed, sent core back to vendor. D@mn thing has 228k on it now, runs like a top, a year after ecm replacement. Guess my home oil changes paid off, haha.
Get the correct module my friend. I know you wanna get by with this one, but
It's not gonna work.
GL, let us know how it goes.

If you are sure that they know what they are doing and that they gave you the right ECU, Then there's still a possibility that it was programmed with the wrong map.

Do you remember the ROM # of the fried ECU ?, Is it the same as the one you are using now ?

I think your car is identical to mine, 05, gulf specs, 5AT, heated leather seat, cruise control, A/F widebands ... If you have an uprev cable and osiris license i can send you my back.to.stock ROM to try it, You will need to disable the NATS though .

Messing with the torque manangement in Osiris will do nothing for you if that ECU is for a 6MT. Kind of like trying to run a computer program with the wrong drivers installed. Don't waste your time, it won't work.

Any time you swap ECU's you have to either disable NATS with uprev, or have the dealer reprogram everything, you can't just plug in another one and go. This feature is only available to Uprev protuners; so you would have to either get a rom emailed to you with it already disabled or get an ecu that had already been reflashed to disable NATS. Without that the car will not run. Period.

On a side note it might be possible to reflash that ECU with a compatible 5AT rom, I'm not sure. I've only done it for 5AT-> 6MT swaps... you might email support@uprev.com and see what they say

That is correct, mine is a Gulf Spec. I haven't got the Uprev Tuner version yet, I think I'm gonna save up for that but thanks a lot for offering your help man.

The NATS was disabled with my Uprev license. The ECU actually works on any VQDE car I plug it into. I see the risk here, as thieves could use this technique to steal VQ cars? lol.

Well I've only been able to observe this issue more now that the engine is fully broken in. What I found is: The quick and crisp UPshifts only happen on D mode but it does not downshift for power when I floor the gas. In "manual" mode it still shifts like a slow-a$$ economy car and slips a bit before it fully engages.

What I found surprising is, the downshift in manual mode is way more responsive than before. We're talking less than a second right after I move the shifter and the gear snaps into 1 gear lower

The car is still streetable but I won't be able to track it like this.

Anyways, I'm done playing around with the AT. I decided to just drive it like this and save up for a manual swap in the future.

So in conclusion, I guess a manual ECU does not work perfectly on a car with an Auto Transmission

I appreciate all your time, guys!

Not sure if anyone's following this but i'd post my findings anyway.

More fiddling around, I got it scanned with a better scanner (Maxidas) and found out these errors (which did not show up with the other scanner i was using)

U100 - CAN COMM CIRCUIT
P1815 - MANU MODE SW/CIRC
P1705 - TP SEN/CIRC A/T

Its been mentioned several times here, i would recommend cross referencing the ECU part # or serial with that of a manual or auto to find out for sure what you have. That IMO would be step one before anything else.

I used to use JWT's ECU list for maxima ecu stuff but i just looked and there is nothing for the 350z. I wonder if there are any other lists like this for the z33? That would be very helpful

You might even have luck contacting Nissan North America or your local dealer with the part/serial number of the ECU....just another thought

If you're thinking of ordering an AT ECU and need it brought back (to the UAE), let me know. I'll be in town in a week or so, and be happy to carry it along as long as it isn't heavy as **** :].

Guys just an update. I got another Automatic ECU, including the immobilizer, keyfob, lock etc. My buddy wrecked his Z last month so I guess I can use these.

My tech said I can get the whole thing transfered into my car so I don't need to disable my NATS (for safety reason and all). That way I can just transfer my Uprev license later on. Do you think this will work?

If not I will just follow usual method i.e disable NATS on the new AT ECU.

edit-

To conclude this thread, Seymore4 had helped me verify the ECU that I was supplied is in fact, a manual ECU instead of an Auto. (Thanks, Zfever... THumbs down!)

So I took the ECU off from a wrecked Auto Z, plugged it in and then reflashed it with Uprev. Problem solved. Easy fix.
THe transmission now behaves normally but with some extra punch because of the Transgo. I am enjoying the car once again.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.
