Default New to the site, Z33, and replacing engine already

I bought my first Z in the middle of February, 2003 Z33 Base with 113xxx miles. Has LSD axle swap, light weight flywheel "brand unknown", Injen CAI, header back Greddy exhaust, and 19" Ray's wheels. I went to Import Alliance last weekend; I bought and installed a Kenetix intake manifold. Thats all on performance.. for now... On the way home from IA, I hear a loud knocking soon as I get back on base "Ft Benning GA" and when I get to the 1st stop light, she stalls. with it knocking and stalling everytime I press the clutch in, I park it in the closest parking lot and wait for a tow truck.

I hit up onw of my friends and he pulled a code on his scanner P0011 Intake Camshaft Position Timing Over Advanced. THinking it was the chain being really loose from a failed chain tensioner, I tried not to sweat it and let the truck tow me to the dealership, only garage that I know that works on Z's in my area.

Few days later I get a call saying its the Main Bearing, they wont pull my engine appart and rebuild the short block, Id have to buy a New engine and have them install it for $7000 ish..Yesterday I called Z1 Motorsports and asked if they had a used stock engine.. They did with 73K on it for $3500, theyd ship it to me for a total of $4k.. I have a Auto Skill Center at my use with unlimited tools, lifts, ect... Today, im going to drive my Z back on base and park her in the lot outside my barracks, and try to get a AER Loan and get this car back on the road within the next 2 weeks.

The previous owner ran the **** out of this car I bet, This Z will have a way better life now. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know, I never did a swap before. Learning EXP.

$3500 is overpriced, looking over ebay you can find VQ35DE's under 2k easily.

better shop around more. Spend 4k on a used engine may be a bad idea when you can get a stage 1 built short block for about 1k more.

Should get a more reliable, lower mile car. And AER is not your answer if you live in the barracks.

Don't pay over 2K for a stock engine. Get one off the forums, check junk yards, or ebay. I remember that in 2009 my brother bought a 15K mile VQ35 off a crashed G35 for $350 because the junk yard had no clue what engine it was lol.

I will shop around more, Ebay just scares me cause it could be a scam, idk, have 170k miles instead of 70k.. Z1 was my first place I looked. And AER is the only place I can get the $ to do this. I gotta check this site's classifieds.

your on ft benning good, thats a good post. true blue eh? call up the hobby shop there and ask them how much itll be to rebuild your engine. you have access to a full shop, with lifts and all the tools youll ever need. i cant remember if it was like lewis or gordan. one theyd do it there, gordan they had a special deal with a mechanic off post.....this was years and years ago. give em a call, save some money, make a old csm rebuild it, and just hoof it for a bit! hooah!

Or could someone point me in the right direction for a trusted company that would have New Vq35de 0 miles on it. What price should I be paying for on ebay? $2k or less?

z1 motorsport in GA, give them a call
http://www.z1motorsports.com/350_g35/index.php

ebay 1500-2500, depending on what your getting. if you find an 03 with decent miles and it comes with a trans and harness id pick that up in a heart beat, sell the trans for 500, and the harness for 200. all the other bits too.

well for 400 more they could have sold him a built short block.
he asked for a trusted company in the area that can get a zero milage vq35.
i cant think of any place else in GA, and z1 has always gotten my vote.(no offense if theirs a big name place i dont know about down there) so if he already contacted them? im not trying to argue, im just trying to say z1 would get my money before some other places. ive had nothing but good dealings with them in the past.

btw love the ob/gyn kanobi!

Makes me wonder if the $3500 quote was actually for a rebuilt stock motor...

OP, are you sure it was for just a used motor? Or is it possible you misunderstood?
